In 1953, two very professional garage door entrepreneurs, Don Petersen and Cliff Boyd, joined their talents to create what was to become the largest garage door supplier on Long Island. Both men were dedicated to the principals of honesty and integrity and firmly believed that the customer would always be the company's number one asset and concern. The company grew quickly both in sales and reputation doing work for New York state, Long Island Lighting Company (now known as LIPA), Western Electric and countless others, in addition to an endless list of satisfied home owners. Although both of these fine men have passed on, the legacy they started has produced over $100,000,000.00 in sales and remarkably, a perfectly clean record with both consumer affairs and the better business bureau. Something that gives us great pride and that few others can claim.

Long Island Garage Door Company pioneered the sale of electric openers on Long Island and has the honor of being the first authorized distributor of "Lift-Master" openers in the country. Lift-Master has grown to be the largest manufacturer of electric openers in the world and still looks to Long Island Garage Door Company as one of their finest accounts.

In 1975, Long Island Garage Door Company joined forces with General American Door Company (GADCO) and quickly became the number one distributor of their revolutionary new high density polyethylene (HDPE) door. Of the well over 100,000 of these remarkable garage doors that Long Island Garage Door Company has since sold on Long Island, we estimate that over 99% are still in service. Requiring no painting, impact resistant, impervious to weather and colorfast, why would you ever change one?

As the company continued to grow both in size and in reputation, Cliff Boyd was, in 1992, presented with the prestigious "Joe Caputo" Award by the International Garage Door Association for his outstanding contribution to the garage door industry. With the tragic passing of Don Petersen in 1973, his brother Dick and Matthew Di Brico, both of whom had been with the company from its early days, became partners in the business and were joined in later years by a longtime friend and local Elmont business man, Pat Divers.

In 1999, GADCO, whose business philosophies and ideals mirrored that of Long Island Garage Door Company, joined forces with Long Island Garage Door Company to lend the technology needed to compete in the modern business community. Joseph L. Kee, President of General American Door Company (GADCO), was quoted as "...being extremely pleased about the opportunity to have such a successful and respected company become part of its corporate family." Long Island Garage Door Company continues to be run by Long Islanders and New York City, retail and wholesale, customers. The success of the company is due in large degree to the dedication of its, more than 25, full time employees, many of whom have been with the Company between 10 and 30 years. However, our number one asset, continues to be our many satisfied "Customers", who tell their friends, neighbors and business associates about the professionalism they experienced in their dealings with Long Island Garage Door Company.
